It’s Indie Games Week, and to celebrate small and medium-sized teams from around the world, we’re highlighting four tenacious indie teams using Epic Online Services to punch above their weight.

Like many independent developers, these studios are pushing games forward with fresh multiplayer experiences. But building cross-platform play, live multiplayer systems, and safe communities takes significant time, effort, and resources—forcing many smaller indie teams to choose between supporting their ambitions and shipping their games.

These four developers are bringing fresh multiplayer experiences to players—from invite-based co-op sessions to full MMO architectures—and Epic Online Services helps provide the technical foundation that enables these independent creators to focus on making never-before-seen experiences for players.

Abiotic Factor | Deep Field Games

Abiotic Factor blends survival crafting with cooperative sci-fi chaos, placing players inside a mysterious research facility where teamwork is essential. The game’s multiplayer design centers on tight-knit co-op sessions, and Deep Field Games leaned into peer-to-peer networking and structured session systems to support flexible co-op play.

“EOS provided a seamless crossplay solution for Abiotic Factor, allowing us to focus on developing a fun experience for players.”
Jacob Kemp, Lead Programmer, Deep Field Games

Midnight Ghost Hunt | Vaulted Sky Games

In Midnight Ghost Hunt, players split into hunters and ghosts in tense, asymmetrical multiplayer matches that reward coordination and quick thinking. That design depended on smooth matchmaking, reliable sessions, and integrated voice communication that enabled players to throw their voice.

“The best part about EOS is it essentially offers us a one-stop shop for most of our backend needs, without requiring us to implement and maintain a lot of different services.”
Samuel Malone, Game Director, Vaulted Sky Games

Loftia | Qloud Games

Beneath Loftia’s inviting art style lies serious technical ambition—dynamic co-op online sessions that enable players to combine their houses and large-scale social hubs shared across hundreds of players. Building a persistent online world as an indie studio meant solving for identity, matchmaking, and scalable architecture from day one. The Loftia Beta launches April 22.

Green Hawk Platoon | RetroPixel Digital

Vancouver-based studio RetroPixel Digital knew that to unite friends for large-scale multiplayer battles, they needed seamless global crossplay. That’s where Epic Online Services came in, helping the studio integrate unified accounts, matchmaking, and stable session management from the start.
